My name is Dan Barrett, also known to some as "Deebz". I am a student and an aspiring visual artist. I have always had strong interests in the creative fields and I have tried getting my feet wet in all-too-many media. Here, I have showcased some of my favorite work that I have done in the last 2-3 years. I am an advertising major and my hope is to use these skills to work in a creative position where I can tell great stories and have a positive influence on others.
Illustration: I have been sketching and drawing as early as elementary school. Creating visual art was always the go to when I was bored or needed a place to channel feelings. Although recently I haven't been drawing or painting much, I find myself using the skills of composition and attention to detail frequently in my photography and videography.
Graphic Design: My formal experience with graphic design is minimal as I have never received classroom instruction or professional guidance. I have designed logos for different clubs and organizations that I've been a part of throughout the years, but my strong suit is in the idea stages (sketching and mock-ups). My adobe knowledge is fairly basic.
Poetry: Poetry has been the outlier in my creative passions. I did not start writing poetry with seriousness until after high school, but, when I did, I absolutely fell in love with it. Fall of 2014 I joined a slam poetry club at Marquette University and have written and performed a number of different poems since then.
Photography: After seriously discovering photography in March of 2014, I knew I had a medium that would change the way I understood art. I have enjoyed photography so much that after 3 months (July 2014) I purchased my own camera and have been snapping away ever since. I always had an iPhone that I would take pictures with, but having a camera allowed me to bring my work to the next level. Spring semester 2015 I changed one of my minors to photography because it is something that I want to pursue in the future.
Videography: Naturally, having had experience in photography, I experimented with videography. I would consider my professional experience almost non-existent; I have made a few attempts in the medium but it is a field that I would like to look further into and learn more about.
Writing: Aside from poetry, I have also written a few magazine articles and blog stories. Most of the writing I do is centered around creative things, often photography. Writing is another outlet that I knew I wanted to pursue professionally and so I switched one of my minors to writing intensive english.
